Adaptogens are all the rage now-a-days and for good reason. In our fast-paced and high stress society, adaptogens (and especially adaptogenic drinks) are there to help us get back to center.
But, with hype comes lots of products flooding the markets, so we're here to help you sift through by sharing our favorite products and brands on the market.
In particular, we're going to focus on adaptogen drinks and adaptogen tea products in this article, but in the future you can be sure we'll expand on other categories. So let's dive in!
What are adaptogens?
Let's just start with some basics: what even are adaptogens? There is a lot of information out there, but here is a very basic definition that we like to use:
Adaptogens are plants that help your body and mind adapt to stress.
Adaptogenic plants have been used for all of human history in one form or another, and we see adaptogens show up a lot in traditional Chinese medicine as well as traditional Indian medicine (Ayurvedic medicine).
Most likely, you'll see that a lot of the adaptogens on the market today are in the form of root powders / extracts and mushroom powders or tinctures.
Here are some of the most popular adaptogens being used today:
- Reishi Mushroom
The benefits of using these adaptogens in a drink is that they can easily be used as a part of your daily routine.
Benefits of Adaptogens
Adaptogens have been used for thousands of years in plant and traditional medicine, but they are just starting to go through the rigorous research process of modern medicine.
One of the most studied adaptogens is Ashwagandha, which has been shown in studies to help your body manage the stress hormone cortisol.
But, here are just some of the incredible benefits that have been observed over 1000's of years and some proven through rigorous research:
- Increased energy
- Improved cognitive function and focus (like from lion's mane mushroom)
- Deeper sleep
- Better mood
- Improved immunity
- And much more!
Adaptogens are considered medicinal (so much of modern medicine is derived from plants!), so it is always a good idea to consult a physician before starting any adaptogen routine.
Ok...so here are some of our favorite adaptogenic teas on the market!
Our favorite adaptogenic teas
1. Wonder Matcha
It shouldn't come as any surprise that our #1 pick is Wonder Matcha!
Wonder Matcha is an incredible adaptogenic matcha tea blended with some of the best adaptogens you can find.
Wonder Matcha uses all organic ingredients, sourced from the best producers of each ingredient in the world. Magic Matcha has over 140x the antioxidants of your typical coffee or tea.
- Premium ceremonial grade matcha is sourced from Uji, Japan
- Ashwagandha is used as the primary adaptogen to help you decrease stress
- Lion's Mane Mushroom is used to help you improve cognition, a perfect addition to your pre-work routine
- Cinnamon is added to boost the antioxidant content and balance flavors.
Also, if you love turmeric (for reducing inflammation in the body) there is an awesome Turmeric Wonder Matcha blend.
You can use this product as an adaptogen drink, such as a latte, in a smoothie or 100's of other ways! We've even seen people put them into pancakes. Get creative :)
Ok, on to the next one!
2. Goldmine Adaptogen Drinks
Goldmine adaptogens is another adaptogenic powerhouse. One of the cool things about the Goldmine Adaptogen Powder Jar is that this adaptogen blend can be used in anyway that you'd like.
The jar is just adaptogens, so if you want to add it to matcha -- go for it! Add it to coffee, smoothies, teas, puddings, etc.
Goldmine adaptogen powder uses:
- Reishi mushroom (fruiting body only!)
- Chaga mushroom (fruiting body only!)
- Cordycepts (ok you get it...fruiting body only!)
And all of these ingredients are USDA certified organic. Awesome.
Goldmine is a great way to get adaptogens into your routine.
3. Golde Shroom Shield
Golde is a great company for more introductory adaptogen and superfood products.
Their products are largely pre-mixed with milk powders (like coconut milk powder) so they're a little bit less potent and often just a bit tastier as a result! We think this is great for people who are just getting started into adaptogens and just want to dip their toes in.
Their Shroom Shield is a great way to get started and uses cocao powder, reishi mushroom, and turkey tail mushroom.
Reishi is a very well known adaptogen which is used in many products on the market. Reishi is known for it's ability to help you relax and is often used in products to help promote calm and sleep.
4. Supermush adaptogen sprays
We love Supermush! The thing that makes them a bit different for this list is that they are a spray and not a tea. But, that makes them pretty cool and you can spray them into a tea if you want to.
In fact, we love combining Supermush sprays with Magic Matcha.
Supermush is a company led by an incredible founder and mushroom advocate, Ali Schaper who believes that mushrooms can save the world. That's a big statement, but to be honest we agree!
There is a theory that mushrooms (and psychedelics in particular) helped the human brain evolve into the modern brain we have today.
Supermush has a three different sprays intended for different purposes. One for energy, one for immunity, and one for chill. Get their three pack and see which one is right for you.
