Sourcing, Quality & Sustainability

We've done a lot of research to pick the right ingredients and suppliers. Read on to see how our ingredients stand apart from the rest.

We also seek to get ingredients from the location where the use of the ingredient was perfected. For example, our matcha is from Uji, Japan and our lion's mane mushroom comes from China.

Organic | Non-GMO | Vegan | Lab Tested

Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha

Matcha

We've seen too many matcha companies use inferior matcha with low L-theanine content, poor color and bitter taste.

Our matcha is organic ceremonial grade, first-pick, shade grown, with a high L-theanine content.

  • Non-GMO, organic certified.
  • Grade: Premium Ceremonial. High L-theanine content.
  • Country of origin: Uji Japan
  • Why Matcha? Delicious, high antioxidants, serene energy.

Growing techniques and sustainability

Our matcha is sourced from Uji, Japan. Our incredible supplier works directly with farmers in Uji using traditional and sustainable techniques. Embedded deep in those original practices still used today is importance around environment, culture, and community.

These traditional farming techniques are handed down from one generation to the next. Our farming cooperatives are sharply aware, and more importantly, active, around the value of healthy soils and the routine regeneration of the land for continued use.

These matcha farmers maintain meticulous crop records and follow some of the world's most stringent environmental regulations and safeguards against pollution (some records go back as far as 800 years).

Organic Fruiting Body Lion's Mane Mushroom Extract

Lions Mane Mushroom

Too many "mushroom" drink companies use mycelium grown on grain, oats, or rice. That's not what you'll find here.

Wood grown fruiting body mushrooms only here.

  • Non-GMO, organic certified.
  • Country of origin: China
  • Extract or Powder: Extract
  • Beta-glucans (polysaccharides): minimum level of 25%
  • Why lion's mane? Improved focus and cognition, improved blood flow.

Growing techniques

Our mushroom supplier grows lion's mane mushroom in greenhouses with natural lighting and natural fresh air flow. No sterile laboratories, sterile air, sterile growing environment or artificial lights.

No unnatural substrates made of cereal grains or rice.

Sustainability

In China, trees are grown in plantations and wood lots for the lumber industry. The majority of our suppliers organic mushrooms are grown on sawdust that is a byproduct of the Chinese lumber industry. The leftover wood materials might otherwise be wasted, but by utilizing the sawdust for mushroom growing, they not only produce a valuable food crop but also help the forestry industry reduce their waste production.

After the mushrooms have finished growing, the spent sawdust substrate, now broken down by the fungal mycelium, is used as natural agricultural fertilizers to help grow additional food crops.

Organic KSM-66 Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha

  • Non-GMO, organic.
  • Country of origin: India
  • Extract or Powder: Both.
  • Why ashwagandha? Reduced stress and anxiety.

We currently have two sources for Ashwagandha. Most of our products are currently using an organic and vegan KSM-66 ashwagandha extract. KSM-66 is the most studied ashwagandha extract in the world.

Some of our products use an organic andvegan ashwagandha root powder sourced from India (where it was traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine).

This is some information directly from our supplier:

Our 100% organic ashwagandha root is one of the most powerful herbs in Ayurvedic healing and has been used since ancient times for a wide variety of conditions. It is most well-known for its restorative health benefits.

Ashwagandha is a highly prized, adaptogenic super root, used frequently in Ayurvedic medicine to increase vitality, relieve stress and boost brain and cognitive function. Adaptogens are known for the ability to help our bodies "adapt" to environmental and emotional stressors. The taste of ashwagandha is quite earthy and bitter, so it tastes best alongside other brewed roots and herbs, especially in tonics with an added sweetener.

As a quality focused company, we test samples from all of our Ayurvedic lots at an accredited laboratory using plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). This method accurately tests for the levels of naturally occurring heavy metals.

Organic Ceylon Cinnamon

Ceylon Cinnamon

  • Non-GMO, organic.
  • Country of origin: Sri Lanka
  • Why ceylon cinnamon? High antioxidants, great flavor ties together ingredients.

Our ceylon cinnamon is sourced from India. We work with Terrasoul Superfoods, an really incredible earth-conscious superfoods company.

This is some information directly from our supplier:

Our certified organic Ceylon cinnamon powder is a purer and healthier version of cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon has a sweeter, more delicate flavor than the more common Cassia cinnamon.

Ceylon cinnamon, known as "true cinnamon," is the purest type of cinnamon. Most commercial cinnamon is of the Cassia variety, which has much less flavor or nutritional benefit since it contains much higher levels of coumarin. Ceylon cinnamon also has a more pleasant fragrance than the harsh, pungent Cassia cinnamon.

Organic Monk Fruit

Organic Monk Fruit

  • Non-GMO, organic.
  • Country of origin: China
  • Why monk fruit? Natural, zero-calorie sweetener.

Our monk fruit is an organic 50% mogroside-v powder sourced from China. No erythritol or other sugar alcohol, it is a pure monk fruit extract

  • Organic

  • Vegan

  • Paleo

  • Keto

  • Non-GMO

  • No added sugar

  • Additive free

  • No gluten (note: we do not test for gluten)

Pow's Sustainability Efforts

Beyond looking to get our products from suppliers using sustainable practices, we continue to work on our own to sustainability efforts.

Primarily, we are working on two initiatives: utilizing more sustainable packaging, and investing in carbon offset projects. With every order we invest not only to offset the shipping on that order, but to support more carbon offset projects like carbon capture.

Our Packaging

We source our packaging from two small packaging companies in the United States.

Currently, our packaging is not recyclable or compostable. Our goal is to move to more sustainable packaging in 2023.

We encourage our customers to reuse our packaging when possible :)
